Your First Visit to tHE ONE Clinic: What Actually Happens

Before and after a first SculptONE facial at tHE ONE Clinic in Austin

Booking a facial somewhere new is slightly uncomfortable. You don't know how long it takes, whether you're supposed to talk, what they'll say about your skin, or whether you'll walk out looking like you've been crying.

So here's exactly what happens at our Korean facial spa in northwest Austin, start to finish.

We're Suji and Hyesu, twin co-founders. We built the method and we train the team. Your treatment is with one of our estheticians, who do this all day.

Before you arrive

Come with a clean face if it's easy, but don't stress about it. We'll cleanse you anyway, and nobody here is judging your makeup.

Give yourself about 90 minutes for a first visit. That's 75 minutes of treatment plus the analysis and a bit of talking at the start.

Park anywhere in the complex. We're in the Hymeadow Woods offices at 12325 Hymeadow Dr, building 2, suite 2-100, directly across from Westwood High School. The buildings sit around a central courtyard, so once you're in the complex you'll find us.

The tea

You get tea when you arrive. Herbal, made from a Korean recipe, and it's not a hospitality gesture we tacked on.

Your nervous system decides how much your face lets go of. Someone who walks in from traffic with their shoulders at their ears and starts getting worked on immediately gets less out of the hour, because the tissue is braced. Ten minutes with a hot drink changes what's possible.

Drink it. Sit down.

The skin analysis

Before anything else we run a 3D scan of your face.

It reads what's under the surface: hydration levels, congestion sitting below the skin, pigment that hasn't surfaced yet, and the way fluid and structure are sitting on each side. Faces are rarely symmetrical, and the scan usually shows you one side draining better than the other.

Two reasons we do it. First, it tells your esthetician what to actually work on rather than guessing. Second, it gives you a baseline. When you come back, you can see what moved instead of trying to remember what your face looked like six weeks ago.

Some people find the scan confronting. It's a very honest photo. But it's the most useful ten minutes of the visit.

The treatment

Then you lie down and the work starts.

We clear first. Double cleanse, then extractions if you need them. There's no point feeding skin that's congested, in the same way there's no point putting serum on over foundation.

Then the lymphatic drainage. Your esthetician starts at your neck, not your face. The nodes that clear your face sit along the jaw and down the neck, and if those are congested the face has nowhere to empty into. Draining the neck first is what makes the rest work.

Then the sculpting and the buccal massage. This is the part people book us for. Buccal massage means working the cheek and jaw muscles from inside your mouth, with gloves. It sounds strange written down. It's the only way to reach those muscles directly, and if you clench your jaw it's the part you'll feel most.

It isn't painful. It is firm, and on a jaw that's been holding tension for years it can be intense in a good way. Tell your esthetician if you want less pressure. People do and it's fine.

Then we feed and finish. Layered Korean hydration, LED, and a finishing massage. This is the quiet part.

Afterwards

Your face will look lifted and slightly flushed. The flush settles within an hour or two.

You'll see the clearest version of the result the next morning, once everything has settled overnight. It holds for several days.

Some people feel slightly tired afterwards, or need the bathroom more than usual that evening. That's normal after drainage work and it passes.

No downtime. You can go back to work, and people will tell you that you look well rested.

What we'll tell you at the end

Your esthetician will tell you what she found and what she'd do next. If that's a series, she'll say so and explain why, because fascia holds a new pattern when it's released more than once and one session can't do that on its own.

What we won't do is send you home with a list of products to buy. We sell a few things we make and believe in, and that's it.

If you want more detail on the technique itself, we wrote about what a Korean facial massage is.
